Pavitra Vasudevan @ 2019 : Raman Award Recipient through Maheswari's Mentorship
Dear Learners
From the very first day, I met Maheswari ma'am, it was evident that she embodies the qualities of an effective teacher.
She demonstrates a profound understanding of students' diverse learning styles and opinions, treating each individual with unwavering respect and equality.
She goes beyond traditional teaching methods, actively adapting her approach to accommodate the unique needs of every student, as I have personally witnessed- “You don't enjoy doing assignments”? “No problem, feel free to submit your own write-up”. "Prefer a different grading method”? "Sure, you can work on a new project to earn your grades”.
Her approachability is unmatched, as she pays close attention to students' needs and fosters a personal connection with each one.
She values students' contributions and perspectives, laying the groundwork for a positive teacher-student relationship based on mutual respect and understanding.
Her impact transcends the physical classroom, even in the face of online classes during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the distance, she fostered a strong bond with her students, including myself.
In my fifth semester, the pressure to participate in hackathons was palpable, but I hadn't found the right opportunity to do so.
However, Maheswari ma'am's innovative approach changed everything. Instead of the usual J Component, she organised a make-n-code-a-thon, opening up her research projects as potential options for us to work on.
My teammates and I were fortunate to have the opportunity to delve into something new and exciting with an amazing professor who provided invaluable insights and guidance. We were thrilled to be awarded the first runner-up in the make-n-code-a-thon 2021.
Her willingness to provide opportunities and support was transformative. It was through her guidance and encouragement that I embarked on my first IoT project and eventually achieved my first publication.
That initial project served as a catalyst for numerous other endeavours, igniting a passion within me for innovation and research.
Under the mentorship of Maheswari ma'am, I continued to flourish academically, participating in several classes and contributing to numerous publications.
One such publication, for which I served as the first author, held special significance as it became the foundation for my Capstone Project. I am immensely proud to share that our publication received the prestigious Raman Research Award in VIT.
This recognition not only validates our hard work and dedication but also highlights the impact of the tutelage of Maheswari ma'am and R Parvathi ma'am.
Sometimes, it's the unexpected twists in our academic journey, like choosing professors in FFCS and the make-n-code-a-thon, that lead to the most rewarding outcomes.
Maheswari ma'am has stood by me and helped me through various moments of uncertainty and challenges in my personal and professional life.
Her unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement have been a constant source of strength, much like that of a family member.
