Swayon Bhunia @2023 : Maheswari ma’am is not just a proctor!!

 Dear readers,

I feel so lucky to have such a nice, caring, professional as well as very powerful proctor Maheswari mam during my bachelor’s journey in Computer Science and Engineering at VIT from 2019-2023.

Okay, so the reason I chose the word "powerful" is that, in VIT, your proctor will be in charge of saving your life if you make any mistakes.

I was a really bad student who made dumb mistakes. I made a lot of blunders at college, like skipping classes and arriving late to the residence hall, but I still recall that I failed the comprehensive exam in my last year.

So, after that, we have to send an email to our HOD to inform them about our exam status which I did. However I made a mistake by repeatedly sending the information to the incorrect email ten times in a row. My HOD severely scolded me and told me to wait for the reexamination in the next semester, which would create a six-month delay in my B.Tech degree.

This was after the final list was released, on which my name was not included for obvious reasons (because I am exceptional).  Everyone was saying that if the HOD says no, then it means no, and that was the reason I felt so hopeless!

I'm not sure how she handled it at the time, but Maheswari ma'am managed to get me a pass on my re-exam the following day.

As I reflect upon my four years pursuing a Bachelor’s degree, one name stands out as a constant pillar of support and guidance—Professor Dr Maheswari R, my mentor and guide throughout my academic journey in the fascinating domain of Internet of Things (IoT). Beyond the confines of the classroom, she played a pivotal role in shaping not only my academic success but also my hostel life experience.

Maheswari ma’am was more than just an educator; she embodied the spirit of mentorship. Her passion for IoT was infectious, turning the classroom into a dynamic space where learning transcended traditional boundaries.

Beyond the course curriculum, she encouraged us to explore real-world applications, fostering a curiosity that extended beyond.

She took the time to understand each student’s strengths, weaknesses, and aspirations. She analyse your weakness in you and then try to help you cope up with it. This personalized approach to teaching created an environment where I felt seen and supported, enhancing my overall academic performance.

Beyond the academic realm, Maheshwari ma’am played a crucial role in navigating the complexities of hostel life.

Her open-door policy and genuine concern for students’ well-being made her a go-to person for advice, creating a sense of trust and camaraderie. From academic dilemmas to personal challenges, she was there to provide guidance, making the transition to college life smoother.

Her belief in our potential motivated us to exceed our own expectations.

As I conclude my Bachelor’s degree and currently perusing Master’s certification course , I am grateful for the profound impact Maheswari ma’am has had on my academic and personal growth.

Her guidance transcended the confines of the classroom, shaping not only my understanding of IoT but also influencing the person I have become.

She will always be a cherished chapter in my academic journey—an inspiring proctor who illuminated the path to knowledge and personal development.

Sincerely,

Swayon Bhunia
