Debarati Mukherjee : Mahe's Cosmo Champion (2018)
Dear Reader!!
All of us have met many teachers throughout our educational careers but only a few were truly great educators, even fewer who can leave a lasting impact as mentors in our life.
Maheswari Mam fulfilled both of these roles for me.
I first met her when I was pursuing MCA at VIT Chennai. It was a difficult time for me as I was barely able to keep up with my coursework and my research requirements.
My relationship with my originally assigned research mentor was fraught, the topic was not interesting to me and I was on the verge of leaving the course permanently.
But then suddenly one day I met a student from Maheswari Mam’s lab who was working on different aspects of IoT.
I went to meet Maheswari Maam because the projects looked interesting and something instantly clicked. I decided to work under her guidance.
In the next 1.5 years I not only learned about how to build an IoT system from scratch which helped me to land a job in the same field in a start-up after graduation, she also taught me a lot about how to handle different situations in life.
She went above and beyond her duties as a research mentor and helped me with unrelated course work.
Her door was always open for her students unlike a lot of other faculty members who liked to take a more constrained approach in their relationship with research students. My one regret is that we did not get an opportunity to take any of her classes within our MCA coursework.
In my final semester I had to take some time off due to a family emergency but thanks to Maam’s help I was still able to submit my thesis within the deadline and passed with flying colours. Although I started in the IoT domain later I moved to Kantar, one of the top market research companies, to work as a Quality analyst.
Currently, I am working with a Canadian social networking startup.
I want to thank Maheswari Maam for providing me with all the courage and motivation which helped me to find success in my life whether that is writing my first ever research paper or building the career that I really wanted for myself.
