Keshav Tandon : Mahe's Cosmos Champion
I was pursuing B.Tech from VIT Chennai and Maheswari mam was my HOD during the year 2022-23. By the time, she became my HOD, I already had 3 back papers.
So, one morning, I received a text from mam that I have to go and meet her in the office. I was scared yet curious as the text never mentioned the reason I was called.
Well, the moment I entered her office, a warm smile welcomed me.
She and I started to talk about my family, about me, my interest and then she started to talk about my academia. In the beginning, I was hesitant to tell her anything but she comforted me well to talk it all out. I thought, she might scold me but to my surprise, she carved a very positive image in my mind out of the dark academic life of mine. I felt belonged and heard that day.
Later in the months, I had a knee fracture and VIT is pretty strict when it comes to attendance. She was the first person who popped in my mind who can come up with a solution. Trust me, I never called her as my HOD, I called her more like my mother. She used to keep a check on me whilst I was on bed rest and on the wheel chair.
During that time, I was dealing with PTSD and Anxiety and that’s something which isn’t the best topic to talk with your HOD. But, she on the other hand, used to hear to my conversations and give genuine inputs which made me belief that I am in the secure hands.
Understanding my situation, she advised me to get a check-up done. I immediately left for home, left all my examinations and while I was leaving, she told me this one thing,”Examinations are important, but its you who is the most important”. She herself used to call me during the time I was in hometown and was under diagnosis. She used to call my parents to take updates on me and made sure nothing goes wrong over my academic life too.
Though she was never my faculty for any particular subject, but the life lessons she taught me is making me who I am now and who I will be in the future.
Today, when I am writing this whole thing, I am successful UX Designer and am Interning currently and all of this wouldn’t have been possible without her, The way she made me realise my strengths and became the light when I was lost in the dark.
No words can express my gratitude towards you ma’am. I am blessed to be a student of yours.
